The tension pulley has a 17mm bolt head that moves counterclockwise to relieve tension. This is where you will likely need another set of hands. While I was pulling the tension pulley back, my dad used some screw drivers to ease the belt over onto the top pulley, while slowly turning it clockwise. The belt slid off and right into place. Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner. Turn the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt. Pull the belt off the alternator. Release the tensioner. step 4 :Reinstalling the Serpentine Belt. 4:22. Loop the belt around the crank pulley. Bring it over the water pump. Bring it under the A/C Pulley.
Step 4 – Inspect belt operation. With the belt in place and properly aligned on all pulleys, proceed to start the vehicle. With the engine idling, inspect the belt to make sure it is running true. If the belt looks to be partially off of a pulley, shut the engine off and re-position the belt as outlined above.
That's correct, put a wrench on the bolt and push toward the rear of the car. The bolt doesn't actually turn, though. You push it to pivot the tensioner and loosen the belt. A regular wrench with a long bar on it would work fine. As far as I can tell though, you'd need a 0 degree offset wrench.
Remove the serpentine belt from the pulleys by pulling it out. Line up the new serpentine belt starting on the pulleys above and lining it up lastly on the pulleys below. Make sure all the grooves on the serpentine belt are aligned very well to the pulleys. Once the tensioner pulley is set, place the 14mm wrench back to the center bolt of the
Jerry Bransford. The serpentine belt's tensioner pulley is spring loaded and for the 4.0L engine, is located on the passenger side of the engine at the top. It's on a slanted pivot arm that you insert a 3/8" drive ratchet wrench or breaker bar into its square hole to move the tensioner pulley against its spring to loosen the belt. Ajj7.
