It's an attempt to maintain a stable market, not to be influence by botters using F2P accounts to ruin the market through RMT and such. A lot of the items you can't buy, eg, armor and weapons, you can craft using the materials you can actually buy or gather yourself. Consider this f2p as a "extended free trial", not as a truly f2p game.
